About The Position

Metro Elevator is a dynamically growing holding company in the elevator services industry with subsidiaries located across the country. Our organization is driven by commitment to its people, our customers, solving problems, and operational excellence. As we expand, we are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive individual to join our team and help manage the financial activities across multiple business units. The Assistant Controller supports the Corporate Controller in directing the organization's accounting operations, including maintaining accurate financial records for the parent company and its subsidiaries. The position requires strong accounting and controls to mitigate risk and ensure the accuracy of reported financial results. The role oversees day-to-day accounting activities, month end close, supervises accounting team, and helps ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards (GAAP) and regulatory requirements. This role has a unique opportunity to be part of a new ERP system implementation including input on design, testing and rollout support to our divisions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA strongly preferred.
  • Five or more years of progressive accounting experience, including at least two years in a supervisory role.
  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
  • Experience with month-end closing, financial statement preparation, and internal controls.
  • Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, or comparable ERP systems) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities with high attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate across departments.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage the daily operations of the accounting department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, payroll, and bank reconciliations.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Manage the month-end and year-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
  • Maintain and enforce a documented system of accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Coordinate and support external audits, tax filings, and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Assist with the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts and analyze variances against actual results.
  • Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and support schedules.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff, including reviewing work and managing performance.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, systems, and efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial and tax regulations.
