About The Position

Our passion for children’s literature shines through all our products & services. We are looking for a highly motivated Assistant Controller to join our fast growing, dynamic company. This position is fully remote. The Assistant Controller will serve as a trusted partner to the Controller and CFO and support our growth and strategy. The primary responsibilities include developing a strong team, overseeing accounting operations, and implementing new processes and systems that help us scale. About you: You love a good challenge, are driven by data, and thrive in a fast-paced environment. You have proven experience in managing a team, designing efficient processes, and maintaining day-to-day operations of an accounting department. You are comfortable at a high-growth company where things evolve quickly. You’re a leader who can operate at a high-level as well as deep in the details.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • Experience in leading a team
  • Minimum 5 years’ work experience in accounting roles
  • CPA preferred
  • Experience with preparation of GAAP financial reports
  • MS office skills, including Word and Excel, a must
  • Experience with SAP B1 a plus
  • Experience in distribution and/or publishing industries a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly detailed-oriented and well organized

Responsibilities

  • Develop and provide leadership for the Accounting team
  • Oversee monthly financial closing procedures; ensuring timeliness and accuracy
  • Oversee the development and implementation of accounting processes and procedures
  • Review monthly account analysis prepared by Accounting team
  • Participate in development and tracking of capital and operational budgets
  • Assess processes and procedures and implement automation as necessary
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with GAAP standards and/or regulatory rules, including implementation of any changes
  • Assist with the development and refinement of financial and operational reports
  • Provide analysis and financial information to senior leaders to guide decision making
  • Interact and communicate effectively with Accounting team, other internal departments and customers at various levels
  • Complete special assignments as required by the Controller and CFO
