The Assistant Controller supports the Corporate Controller and finance leadership team in managing the company’s accounting operations, financial reporting, compliance, and audit processes. This role plays a critical part in maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements, and strengthening internal controls across a growing multi-entity organization.

Requirements

  • Education: B.S. in Accounting.
  • Experience: 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Solid knowledge of GAAP, technical accounting guidance, and financial reporting best practices
  • Experience improving accounting processes or implementing system enhancements
  • Experience designing, maintaining, or enhancing internal controls
  • ERP experience required; Sage Intacct, Service Titan or experience with multi-entity ERP experience strongly preferred
  • Computer Skills: Advanced skills with Excel.
  • Other Requirements: Exceptional analytical skills. Self-starter and can work independently.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with technical accounting topics such as lease accounting (ASC 842), debt accounting, or other complex accounting areas preferred
  • Experience in private equity–backed companies or multi-entity environments strongly preferred
  • Sage Intacct experience is preferred.
  • Certifications & Licenses: CPA preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Support monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, including preparation and review of journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
  • Maintain accounting for fixed assets, goodwill, intangible assets, leases, debt, and financing activities, including depreciation, amortization, and interest accruals.
  • Prepare and review technical accounting entries such as stock-based compensation, lease accounting (ASC 842), accrued interest, and self-insurance liabilities.
  • Ensure financial reporting accuracy in accordance with GAAP, company policy, and internal control standards.
  • Prepare audit schedules, manage documentation requests, and serve as a liaison with auditors.
  • Coordinate with external tax advisors on federal, state, and local tax filings, extensions, estimates, and supporting documentation.
  • Assist with state tax apportionment reporting and related data gathering.
  • Support business personal property tax filings and entity compliance activities including licenses, registrations, DBAs, and certificates of good standing.
  • Facilitate annual federal and state K‑1 distribution processes.
  • Track debt agreements, accrued interest, financing fees, and lease accounting schedules.
  • Maintain accounting for self-insurance liabilities including quarterly adjustments and annual true-ups.
  • Support insurance application preparation, renewals, and financial reporting requirements.
