About The Position

Zymo Research is looking for a dynamic individual to join our accounting team as an Assistant Controller! In this role, you will play a critical role in maintaining financial integrity, supporting strategic decision-making, and driving operational excellence across our multi subsidiary organization. Your contribution will ensure the delivery of accurate, timely, and reliable financial information to internal teams and key stakeholders, while also serving as a backup to the Controller and supporting the overall integrity and efficiency of the accounting department. Essential Duties and Responsibilities This position will be responsible for the accounting functions of several of our smaller entities and backup for our main organization Zymo, in the areas defined below: Financial Reporting & Accounting Assist in managing the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes. Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with GAAP (or IFRS, as applicable). Ensure timely and accurate preparation of account reconciliations and journal entries. Analyze financial results and investigate significant variances. Maintain the general ledger and oversee accounting transactions. Internal Controls & Compliance Support the development, implementation, and monitoring of internal controls. Ensure compliance with accounting standards, company policies, and regulatory requirements. Assist with external audits, tax filings, and financial reviews. Coordinate responses to auditor requests and prepare supporting documentation. Team Leadership Assist with supervising and developing accounting staff. Foster a collaborative and high-performing accounting environment. Assist with performance evaluations, training, and professional development initiatives. Cash Management & Treasury Prepare bank reconciliations and cash management activities. Assist in forecasting cash needs and working capital requirements. Budgeting & Analysis Support annual budgeting and forecasting processes. Partner with department leaders to monitor spending and financial performance. Provide financial analysis and recommendations to support decision-making. Process Improvement Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, and reporting efficiency. Participate in ERP implementations, system upgrades, and automation initiatives. Develop and document accounting policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field. (preferred)
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
  • Experience with month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems such as NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar platforms.
