About The Position

The Assistant Controller is a key member of the Finance leadership team, supporting the AVP Controller in overseeing accounting operations and financial reporting. This role is responsible for accurate and timely financial reporting, maintenance of internal controls, oversight of day-to-day accounting and treasury activities, and continuous process and technology improvements in accounting. The Assistant Controller will play a critical role in monthly close, GAAP compliance and reporting, internal controls, and scalable processes to support growth.

Requirements

  • Active CPA license required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including public accounting and/or private industry.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting.
  • Experience in a private equity–backed or lender-driven environment.
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, Oracle, SAP, or similar).
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • High attention to detail with the ability to meet aggressive deadlines
  • Clear and confident communication with senior leadership and external stakeholders

  • Master’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration.
  • Experience in communications, technology, or construction industries.
  • Experience with cash management and treasury-related processes (cash positioning and forecasting, banking platforms and payment controls).

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the monthly close process, including the monthly close checklist, journal entries, reconciliations and analysis of key balance sheet accounts.
  • Review and present monthly financial reporting for both management reporting and external reporting purposes, in accordance with U.S. GAAP and company-specific accounting policies and practices.
  • Analyze financial results, investigate variances, and provide meaningful insights to management.
  • Oversee cash position, monitor bank balances and administer payments as needed, coordinating with FP&A to ensure liquidity for working capital needs.
  • Research, interpret, and apply accounting guidance, including revenue recognition (ASC 606), leases (ASC 842), and other relevant guidance including capitalization criteria.
  • Oversee accounting for customer and vendor contracts and capital projects and related accruals and reserve estimates.
  • Help develop, maintain and improve accounting policies, procedures and process documentation.
  • Oversee customer billing operations to prepare and issue monthly customer invoices and partner with Operations and other support teams to resolve billing disputes, credits and adjustments as needed.
  • Oversee complex contract accounting and asset accounting processes typical in communications services and construction-related businesses.
  • Partner with Sales, Operations, and Legal to ensure proper accounting treatment of customer and vendor agreements and pricing structures.
  • Monitor accounts receivable, collections trends, and revenue-related working capital metrics.
  • Assist in designing, implementing and monitoring internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure data integrity.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to streamline accounting processes, improve efficiency and data quality and enhance reporting.
  • Partner cross-functionally to support ERP enhancements, system integrations, and automation initiatives.
  • Prepare and review lender reporting, covenant calculations, and compliance schedules.
  • Coordinate annual financial statement audits or reviews and serve as a primary audit contact.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff, promoting accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Act as a key backup to the Controller and assume expanded leadership responsibilities as needed.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Operations and FP&A to support business objectives.
