About The Position

Velosity is searching for an Assistant Controller to support our manufacturing facility in Forest Lake, MN. The Assistant Controller will play a critical role in supporting the company’s annual audit, 401k audit, annual tax return and other compliance related needs. This is an on-site position. Shift: Monday-Friday 7:30am-4:00pm The typical pay range for this role: $120,000-$160,000 per year. This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The compensation that will be offered to the successful candidate will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography, internal equity and other relevant factors. Requirements

  • A minimum of six years of experience, preferably within an international, national or large-regional accounting firm; or a combination of public and private experience.
  • Excellent organizational and attention to detail skills; effective problem solving, critical thinking and interpersonal skills.   The ability to multitask and work independently with little established processes; think through and implement new accounting, analysis and reporting processes.  Communicate with both internal and external customers in a professional and respectful manner.
  • Excellent knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles; proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.  General understanding of ERP/business operating systems.
  • Proven leadership abilities; work independently with limited supervision; solve practical problems, work cooperatively and effectively with customers, vendors and other departments within Velosity and its affiliates.  Self-motivated, goal-oriented and can work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
  • CPA accreditation.
  • Valid identification and the ability to work legally in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all month-end close activities including, but not limited to, preparing or posting journal entries, account reconciliations, intercompany support, standard report generation and first level review and analysis.
  • Manage all aspects of the general ledger.
  • Prepare timely and accurate financial statements for Velosity.
  • Research accounting issues for compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and provide technical accounting guidance when needed.
  • Manage and develop accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll personnel, ensuring accuracy,     timeliness, compliance, and appropriate internal controls across all functions.
  • Assist Accounting team as required, which may include, but not limited to; payroll, treasury, accounts receivable, accounts payable, fixed assets, etc.  This encompasses regular troubleshooting of matters as they arise and processing backup.   Provide escalation support for AR collection issues or AP vendor payment coordination.
  • Calculate inventory reserves (E&O, slow-moving, obsolescence) and document methodology and assumptions.  
  • Support cycle count program execution, variance investigation, and root-cause analysis.  
  • Oversee maintenance of fixed asset files within the fixed asset system as well as all supporting documentation.
  • Assist with the preparation, data and support gathering, schedule creation and other tasks required for the annual financial statement audit and tax filings.
  • Lead/assist with the development and maintenance of an effective controls environment to minimize risk of fraud, theft, misappropriation of funds, etc.  
  • Assist with analysis of manufacturing variances (material, labor, overhead, PPV, usage, efficiency) and partner with Operations to identify root causes and corrective actions.
  • Obtain a strong understanding of the Epicor ERP, IQMS and Job Boss systems and how they interact with the entire business operation.
  • Assist in the development, monitoring and maintenance of effective and efficient written procedures.
  • Assist with the on-going development and improvement of accounting processes
  • Provide monthly, quarterly and annual analysis.
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of budgets and forecasts.
  • Evaluate operations with the goal of efficiency gains, removal of redundancy or waste and overall profitability improvement.
  • Work effectively with all levels of company personnel including staff, management and executive management.
  • Other tasks as assigned by the Velosity Corporate Controller or CFO.
