About The Position

The Assistant Controller will play a crucial role in supporting the Controller with financial operations. This position involves overseeing various accounting functions, ensuring compliance with regulations, and contributing to financial planning and analysis. The role requires strong leadership skills to supervise accounting staff and a proactive approach to process improvement within hotel accounting systems. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls, with a preference for experience in the hospitality industry.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience
  • At least 2 years in a supervisory or Assistant Controller role
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, budgeting, and internal controls
  • Proficiency with hotel accounting systems, Microsoft Excel (advanced), and general ledger software
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
  • High attention to detail, integrity, and a proactive problem-solver
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and work collaboratively with operations teams
  • Must live in or be willing to relocate to the Florida Keys area
  • Flexible schedule to support month-end deadlines
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

Nice To Haves

  • Hotel or resort hospitality experience strongly preferred
  • CPA or CMA preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the preparation of accurate and timely monthly financial statements, variance analysis, and management reports.
  • Support month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Oversee and perform general ledger maintenance, account reconciliations, journal entries, and balance sheet analysis.
  • Support the development and monitoring of annual budgets, forecasts, and financial plans.
  • Provide analytical support for cost control and revenue optimization initiatives.
  • Maintain strong internal controls, ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and company policies.
  • Assist with audits (internal and external) and prepare supporting documentation.
  • Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll interface, and cash management processes.
  • Administer house banks and conduct audits as needed.
  • Supervise and develop accounting staff, including training and performance management.
  • Collaborate with department heads across the resort on financial matters.
  • Utilize hotel accounting systems (e.g., Delphi, Opera, or similar) to streamline processes, improve efficiency, and ensure data integrity.
  • Support the Controller with financial modeling, capital expenditure tracking, tax filings, and other ad-hoc projects as required.
