About The Position

Reports to: VP, Accounting Responsible for assisting the VP, Accounting in the management and execution of the Company’s accounting operations, financial close, and reporting activities. The Assistant Controller will directly oversee operational accounting, joint interest billing (JIB), and revenue accounting functions while ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting and compliance with Company policies and accounting standards. This role will serve as a key leader within the accounting organization and provide hands-on support for accounting operations, process improvement initiatives, and staff development.

Requirements

10+ years of Oil & Gas accounting experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field required
CPA preferred
Strong revenue and regulatory accounting background with state and federal (ONRR) entities with an emphasis on evaluating risk management
Strong understanding of operational accounting, JIB, and revenue accounting processes
Knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and COPAS procedures
Experience with ERP/accounting systems
Strong Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office skills
Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills
Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
Ability to supervise staff and foster a collaborative team environment
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
Strong problem-solving and process improvement mindset

Responsibilities

Oversees day-to-day accounting operations including operational accounting, JIB, and revenue accounting
Assist monthly close processes including reconciliations, accruals, account analysis, and variance reviews
Assists in preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and supporting schedules
Ensures accounting records are maintained in accordance with GAAP, state and federal (ONRR) requirements and Company policies
Reviews accounting transactions and reconciliations for accuracy and completeness
Supervises and develops accounting personnel across assigned functional areas
Supports implementation and maintenance of internal controls and accounting procedures
Coordinates with operations, land, production, and corporate teams to ensure accurate and timely accounting information
Participates in system implementations, upgrades, and process improvement initiatives
Helps develop and maintain accounting policies and procedural documentation
Supports special projects, acquisitions, and integration activities as needed
Assists the VP, Accounting with technical accounting matters and financial analysis
