About The Position

Together with the Construction Project Manager, the Assistant Construction Project Manager is responsible for managing, monitoring, and delivering construction services that are high-quality, profitable and result in client satisfaction. The person in this position understands many aspects of a multidisciplinary project and learn how to fit each task together for successful project implementation. Due to the field nature of this position, applicants must have the ability to travel away from their home location for extended periods of time to work on-site at construction projects. The position may also require night shift and/or weekend work as necessary. An Assistant Construction Project Manager must demonstrate a high level of construction knowledge along with providing trusted leadership, guidance and mentoring to less experienced team members as necessary. This position requires a high level of contractor and client relations, staff leadership and business management responsibilities. This role also requires great interpersonal skills, a strong work ethic, solid judgement, and a desire to learn and grow. An Assistant Construction Project Manager is expected to work well with others, absorb and apply constructive criticism, and work on projects independently, but seek guidance from more experienced members of the team as necessary.

Requirements

  • Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Project) - Proficient
  • Projectwise, Newforma, Deltek Vison, UKG, Bluebeam - Proficient
  • Demonstrates clear understanding of project-related technical terms and fundamentals
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Engineering Management required
  • 4 years of relevant project experience required
  • 3 years of relevant project experience required with advanced degree
  • EIT required
  • Driving is an essential job function or a valid driver’s license is required to support legitimate business purposes
  • DOWL PMIT certification required
  • Regularly required to sit.
  • Required to talk and hear.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision and ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate resolution of technical issues with project staff.
  • Review and interpret technical drawings and documents.
  • Prepare technical documents as necessary.
  • Demonstrate great communication and collaboration skills in both a leadership and supporting role.
  • Interact with clients, teaming partners, and contractors resulting in client satisfaction.
  • Take responsibility for personal and staff results and proactively seeks to assist and mentor others.
  • Work with Construction Project Managers with planning and development of project schedules that balances client needs and internal capacity.
  • Oversee the on-time submittal of technical work products and deliverables.
  • Schedule/lead internal and external project meetings to maintain project progress.
  • Coordinate with resource managers to ensure adequate staffing is assigned to projects.
  • Prepare scope of work and fee breakdowns with limited oversight resulting in financial success for the firm.
  • Monitor project financials, burn rate, and earned value and takes appropriate action to make adjustments as needed.
  • Identify project change(s) (e.g., scope, schedule, budget, project team, client team) quickly and works with Construction Project Managers to obtain contract amendments or conduct other change management activities as needed.
  • Work with Project Managers on business development and marketing efforts by meeting with clients and teaming partners, identifying leads for future work, identifying which leads are the best to pursue, positioning the firm to win those projects, and collaborating with others to successfully propose and win.
  • Frequent communications with clients and teaming partners during project meetings, industry conferences, and other events.
  • Serve as a company ambassador that fosters client satisfaction and loyalty.

  • Provide management and leadership on multiple projects of moderate size and complexity.
  • Contribute to the development of scope, schedule, and budget for projects.
  • Share responsibility for project quality, client satisfaction, and financial outcomes of assigned projects.
  • Oversee team operations and the daily workflow of the team.
  • Organize workflow and ensure that employees understand their duties or delegated tasks.
  • Recruit and assist in hiring new employees.
  • Implement training for new hires and identify training opportunities for current staff.
  • Communicate information from leadership to employees and vice versa.
  • Monitor employee productivity and provide constructive feedback and coaching.
  • Set goals for performance and deadlines in ways that comply with company’s plans and vision and communicates them to employees.
  • Provide constructive and timely performance evaluations.
  • Provide input on rewards and promotions based on performance.
  • Provide input on the discipline and termination of employees as needed and in accordance with company policy.
