About The Position

The Department of General Services (DGS) has an outstanding career opportunity for an energetic, experienced Assistant Construction Project Coordinator in the North Central Region of Pennsylvania. This role involves managing capital improvement projects for Commonwealth Agencies within DGS' North Central Region. The construction portfolio includes projects within various Commonwealth Agency facilities such as correctional institutions, state hospitals and centers, universities, readiness centers and veterans' hospitals, flood control and state parks, and headquarters buildings. The position is home headquartered but requires daily travel to job sites in specific North Central Region counties and occasional travel to counties outside the region. Candidates must reside in or be willing to relocate to Huntingdon, Juniata, Mifflin, Perry, or Snyder County.

Requirements

  • Four years of professional building construction administration, construction planning, or construction project engineering experience for renovations and new construction of commercial, institutional, or educational buildings; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Possession and maintenance of an active non-commercial Pennsylvania Class C driver’s license or equivalent.
  • Must reside in or be willing to relocate prior to employment to Huntingdon, Juniata, Mifflin, Perry, or Snyder County.
  • Must be willing and able to travel to construction sites in Bedford, Blair, Cameron, Centre, Clearfield, Clinton, Elk, Fulton, Huntingdon, Juniata, Lycoming, McKean, Mifflin, Montour, Northumberland, Perry, Potter, Snyder, Tioga, and Union counties in the North Central Region.
  • Must be willing and able to travel to the following counties outside of the North Central Region if necessary for work: Bradford, Cambria, Columbia, Dauphin, Forest, Franklin, Indiana, Jefferson, Schuylkill, Somerset, Sullivan, and Warren.
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions.

Nice To Haves

  • On-site renovation and new construction experience at commercial, institutional, and educational buildings.
  • Working knowledge of Critical Path Method (CPM) construction schedules.
  • Previous work experience on construction projects that utilized separate multiple Prime Contractors to perform the work.
  • Experience writing, generating correspondence to contractors, design professionals, and/or clients regarding project issues, conditions, or potential actions.
  • Experience conducting construction meetings.
  • Experience reviewing or negotiating construction change orders.
  • Microsoft Office Suite and/or Construction Management Software experience.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinating projects to ensure they are in accordance with approved plans, specs, general conditions, laws, regulations, and procedures.
  • Conducting job conferences.
  • Negotiating and approving change orders up to a specific limit.
  • Providing technical guidance and direction to outside professionals and contractors.
  • Monitoring project progress to ensure adherence to project schedules.
  • Problem-solving.
  • Using construction computer software for administrative forms and processes.
  • Generating various documents and reports in the IT system.
  • Representing the Department in claims/disputes.
  • Ensuring effective and efficient customer care to all client agencies and stakeholders.

Benefits

  • Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $60,714.00 (before taxes).
