About The Position

This Opportunity WSP is seeking a motivated Assistant Construction Materials Testing Laboratory Technician to join our growing San Diego, CA team. This is a hands-on, fast‑paced role ideal for someone who enjoys practical work, learning technical skills, and contributing to high‑impact infrastructure projects. Our San Diego laboratory performs over 150 accredited tests and supports a wide range of clients and agencies. Many projects require rapid turnaround times, meaning adaptability and strong work ethic are essential. Requirements

• Holds a high school diploma or GED and demonstrates the willingness and capability to learn technical testing procedures
• Reliable and hardworking, with consistent attendance and punctuality.
• Comfortable performing physical, hands-on work and able to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Able to work schedules that align with project needs, including occasional nights, weekends, and overtime.
• Possesses basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) and can follow standard formulas.
• Works effectively as part of a team but can also perform tests independently once trained.
• Flexible, motivated, and eager to learn a wide variety of testing methods in a dynamic laboratory environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory testing on soil, concrete, hot mix asphalt, masonry, and steel following established ASTM, AASHTO, and other standard test methods.
• Develop proficiency in a wide range of laboratory procedures and earn industry-recognized testing certifications.
• Support laboratory accreditation programs and take on progressively increasing responsibilities in daily operations.
• Contribute to high‑quality, timely testing services for clients, agencies, and major construction projects across the region.
