About The Position

An Assistant Construction Manager is a hands-on, field-focused leader who helps ensure the project is built safely, on time, on budget, and to quality standards—while supporting the Construction Manager and coordinating daily jobsite activities.

Requirements

  • Relevant bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field.
  • 2 to 5 years of experience managing high voltage transmission or substation projects.
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Ability to obtain DOT Medical Examiners Certificate

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of construction scheduling tools and look-ahead planning.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and project documents.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills when working with field teams, subcontractors, and project leadership.
  • Knowledge of jobsite safety practices, quality control expectations, and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with construction management or project tracking software.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Construction Manager (CM) in daily jobsite operations
  • Assist the Construction Manager in coordinating and monitor subcontractors, crews, and equipment
  • Ensure work is performed according to plans, specifications, and schedule
  • Support development and execution of the construction schedule
  • Track daily/weekly production and progress
  • Assist with look-ahead planning (2-week / 3-week schedules)
  • Identify potential delays and communicate them early
  • Help sequence work to maximize efficiency and workflow
  • Act as a point of contact between subcontractors and project leadership
  • Ensure subcontractors are aligned with: Scope of work, Schedule expectations, Safety requirements
  • Assist in resolving field conflicts and coordination issues
  • Promote and enforce jobsite safety standards
  • Support incident reporting and investigations
  • Ensure compliance with company policies
  • Help ensure all work meets quality standards and specifications
  • Perform field inspections and walkthrough when onsite
  • Assist with: Punch lists, Deficiency tracking, Corrective actions
  • Verify with the QAQC manager that work is being completed to code.
  • Maintain accurate daily reports, including: Work completed, Crew sizes, Weather conditions, Delays/issues
  • Coordinate with field and APM to track and document: Installed quantities, Productivity, Field progress
  • Assist with the construction manager to maintain accurate material takeoffs.
  • Coordinate material deliveries and staging
  • Ensure materials are: Delivered on time, Stored properly, Available when needed
  • Communicate with procurement team on shortages or delays
  • Monitor labor productivity and equipment usage
  • Assist in identifying cost impacts or inefficiencies
  • Help track field-related costs
  • Support CM in staying within budget targets
  • Serve as a bridge between field and office teams
  • Communicate daily with: Construction Manager, Engineers, Project teams, Subcontractors
  • Ensure clear understanding of priorities and expectations
  • Assist with project closeout activities, including: Final inspections, Punch list completion, As-built documentation
  • Support turnover to owner/client
