About The Position

The Assistant College Counselor will support the College Counselor in providing comprehensive college and career guidance to students. This role involves assisting students and their families with academic planning, college exploration, application processes, and financial aid. The position also focuses on supporting students' transition to post-secondary education and maintaining connections with alumni.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum one-year K-12 school system experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree in guidance counseling is preferred.
  • Valid Missouri counseling certificate is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the College Counselor in providing college and career counseling to students.
  • Provide college resources and opportunities through individual and group meetings.
  • Assist students and families with academic matters and curriculum offerings.
  • Develop and implement curriculum for career exploration and the college application process.
  • Assist students with college and financial aid applications.
  • Advise and coach students through the financial aid process.
  • Provide feedback and recommend solutions for students' academic needs.
  • Guide students in using the college admission data management system.
  • Provide guidance and teach tools for navigating the college search and application process.
  • Implement and support college transition services, including orientation, early alert strategies, data collection, and transition programming.
  • Maintain contact with high school graduates, providing guidance and problem-solving.
  • Assist students not matriculated into post-secondary endeavors with college/career advising.
  • Assist with alumni data tracking.
  • Provide additional support for alumni to ensure a smooth transition to post-secondary education.
  • Prevent summer-melt problems by supporting seniors during the summer via various communication methods.
  • Support alumni during their first two years at post-secondary institutions and organize events to stay connected.
  • Track and support alumni financial aid applications during their first two years at the postsecondary level.
  • Create opportunities such as mentoring and networking events to connect students with campus alumni.
  • Support campus college and career partnership efforts to create career development opportunities.
  • Organize transitional programs, activities, and workshops for seniors.
  • Organize campus alumni-led college and career panels and talks.
  • Prepare and disseminate materials regarding college transition and matriculation.
  • Coordinate the matriculation process across the campus.
  • Work effectively as a member of the College and Career team and attend required meetings.
  • Maintain a collaborative team with consistent communication flow to all key stakeholders and teammates.
  • Assist students/parents in understanding the school's mission and vision regarding postsecondary education.
  • Support and attend appropriate college and career activities and events.
  • Support the campus in maintaining positive alumni relations events.
  • Provide college success coaching support to campus graduates during their first two years in college.
  • Educate families about college admissions and financial aid or scholarship possibilities.
  • Educate students on appropriate interviewing techniques, self-assessment tools, and application essay writing techniques.
  • Coordinate school college trips.
  • Participate in, coordinate, and conduct activities that contribute to the effective operation of the counseling program and school.
  • Assist Senior College Counselor for college and career programs and other duties as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
