About The Position

Assists the Head Coach with various aspects of managing a sports team, including organizing meetings, assessing player skills, developing practice schedules, and coaching athletes. The role involves monitoring academic performance, ensuring athlete safety, communicating with parents and organizations, and maintaining equipment and records. The Assistant Coach also plays a role in promoting the sport and modeling positive behavior.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must possess a valid Level One IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card

Nice To Haves

  • Prior coaching experience preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assists the Head Coach with organizational meetings for team prospects and encourages potential athletes to participate.
  • Assesses player skills and assigns team positions.
  • Develops a regular practice schedule and organizes practice time for individual and team development.
  • Works with the athletics director in scheduling facilities for practices and competition.
  • Assigns duties to assistant coaches as necessary.
  • Coaches and instructs players on rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
  • Observes players during competition and practice to identify areas for improvement.
  • Determines game strategy based on team capabilities.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of behavior and provides supervision of athletes.
  • Monitors the academic performance of team members to ensure eligibility requirements are met.
  • Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury.
  • Conferences with parents/guardians regarding athletic performance.
  • Models positive behavior and maintains appropriate conduct.
  • Acts as a team representative and promotes the sport.
  • Follows established procedures for the proper care, maintenance, and requisitioning of equipment, supplies, and uniforms.
  • Works with the athletic director to develop a policy for awards and submits a list of award winners.
  • Participates in special activities such as parent’s night, banquets, award nights, and pep assemblies.
  • Maintains eligibility forms, emergency data cards, insurance records, equipment inventory, and other related records.
  • Potentially drives athletes using district transportation to and from off-campus games.
  • Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
