The Assistant Coach is responsible for coaching an assigned athletic activity, working with student athletes to improve their personal and teamwork skills, and providing guidance and encouragement to help students benefit from participation in program activities. This role upholds board policies, promotes a professional image of the school district, and encourages community partnerships. The coach also explains program objectives and student responsibilities to parents and students, verifies medical/scholastic eligibility, and promotes academic success. They carry out the assigned practice schedule, ensure athletes receive appropriate instruction and opportunities to participate, and help supervise the preparation of athletic fields and practice areas. Safety is a priority, including teaching injury prevention, ensuring appropriate equipment, and documenting injuries. The coach also assists with recruiting, training, and supervising student managers, trainers, and scouts, and helps arrange transportation and accompanies the team to sanctioned athletic activities. They uphold the student conduct code, implement pupil management procedures, and model respectful behavior. The role involves assisting with approved fund-raising projects and ensuring financial activities are processed correctly. The Assistant Coach also participates in staff meetings, maintains confidentiality, reports suspected child abuse or neglect, and pursues professional growth opportunities.
