About The Position

Amherst College invites applications for the Assistant Coach - Softball position. This is a full-time, 10-month position with an expected salary range of $36,000 to $38,300 annually (adjusted for a 10-month position). The salary offered will vary based on relevant education, training, experience, tenure status, and other nondiscriminatory business considerations. Amherst College provides a comprehensive and competitive benefits package. The Assistant Coach - Softball supports the Head Coach in all aspects of the program, including student-athlete development, recruiting, team logistics, and compliance. The role requires flexibility to work some nights, weekends, and to travel overnight for away games. The Assistant Coach - Softball is expected to support a diverse student body and workforce and contribute to a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Collegiate playing and/or coaching experience (collegiate or competitive level preferred).
  • Understanding of the role of athletics in a competitive academic environment.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to drive college vehicles; must successfully complete the Five College Risk Management driver credentialing program.
  • Willingness and availability to work nights, weekends, and travel overnight as required.
  • Successful completion of required reference and background checks.
  • An acceptable criminal offender records information (CORI) check.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Head Coach with planning and conducting daily practices.
  • Provide technical instruction, skill development, and individual feedback to student-athletes.
  • May provide preparation and logistical support for games.
  • Foster an environment focused on growth, accountability, and team cohesion.
  • Assist with the identification, evaluation, and recruitment of prospective student-athletes.
  • Communicate with recruits and their families through phone, email, and in-person visits.
  • Coordinate and participate in on-campus recruiting visits and events.
  • Ensure all recruiting activities comply with institutional, conference, and NCAA guidelines.
  • Manage team travel logistics including transportation, lodging, and meals for away contests.
  • Drive college vehicles to practices, games, and tournaments as necessary.
  • Assist in equipment management and inventory control.
  • Maintain records related to team activities, recruiting, and travel.
  • Assist the Head Coach with administrative tasks and program planning as needed.
