About The Position

Long Beach State Athletics is seeking two Assistant Coaches for the Softball program. This is a full-time, 12-month position with a 1-year appointment that is renewable. The role involves assisting with the development and supervision of student-athletes, adhering to NCAA and conference rules, recruiting, scheduling, practice planning, academic monitoring, game planning, budgetary responsibilities, coordinating strength and conditioning, completing compliance forms, supporting marketing activities, participating in fundraising, and cultivating relationships within the university community. The position is expected to be effective on or about June 1, 2026.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Prior athletic participation in Softball
  • Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population, including Black/African American, Latine/x, Native American/Indigenous, low-income, first-generation, and minoritized students.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the development and supervision of the student-athletes in the Softball program.
  • Assist the program in accordance with National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I, Big West Conference, and University rules, regulations and policies.
  • Recruit student-athletes in accordance with NCAA regulations and academic standards, as well as University requirements.
  • Assist with scheduling nationally competitive teams in conjunction with the Head Coach.
  • Assist in the planning and coordinating of in-season practices, including team and individual workouts.
  • Assist in the planning and coordinating of out-of-season practices, including individual skill instruction and team workouts, focusing on the development of athletic skills to compete at the Division I level.
  • Assist in monitoring the academics of each of the Softball student-athletes.
  • Effectively communicate with Athletics Academic Advisor to ensure any academic concerns are being addressed.
  • Assist with the planning and implementing of game plans, including development of scouting reports of opponents.
  • Assist with budgetary responsibilities including recruitment, team travel, and equipment.
  • Coordinate strength and conditioning program with assigned Strength and Conditioning Coach.
  • Complete all necessary compliance forms as required and/or requested by the Athletics Compliance Office in a timely manner.
  • Support all marketing activities of the Department of Athletics for the Softball program.
  • Participate in fund raising activities for the Softball program and/or Department of Athletics.
  • Cultivate and maintain effective relationships with students, parents, faculty, staff, media, and friends of the university.
  • Perform computer related tasks.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Head Coach and Sport Supervisor.

Benefits

  • The Coaching Specialist (12-Month) classification salary is $78,456 to $139,704 per year (paid as 12 monthly payments).
