About The Position

The Assistant Coach is responsible for the oversight of day-to-day functions of the team as directed by the head coach. This role requires adherence to all NCAA and University rules and regulations. The position involves assisting the head coach with team practices and competitions, including planning, organizing, and implementing practice sessions. The Assistant Coach will also manage team needs as assigned by the head coach or other staff, communicate with the Champion Performance team, and maintain communication with administration and coaching staff regarding athletic development. Collaboration with nutrition and sports medicine staff is crucial for implementing injury prevention and reconditioning programs. The role provides instructional expertise in speed, strength, and conditioning for assigned athletic programs, including pre-season, in-season, and post-season workouts. Staying updated on emerging technologies, processes, products, and services is expected, along with maintaining a working knowledge of and adherence to NCAA and institutional rules. The Assistant Coach will present support to athletes and parents during on-campus recruiting visits and provide support, oversight, and direction for applied performance initiatives. The role requires effective teamwork, embracing and fostering LU’s mission, and strict adherence to Liberty University policies, representing the University in an exemplary manner.

Requirements

  • Four-year college degree
  • Experience coaching at the Division I level
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Ability to communicate and function effectively within a team setting
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to convey clear, well articulated information.
  • Ability to understand, speak, and write English in order to convey messages and correspond in an articulate and professional manner.
  • Possess public communication skills that allow professional representation of Liberty University to a variety of business, government, and community customers and associates.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Computer and scheduling skills.
  • Intuitively able to reason, analyze information and events, and apply judgment in order to solve problems of both a routine and complex nature.
  • Regularly required to hear and speak in order to effectively communicate orally.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, and climb stairs to move about the campus.
  • Handle materials, reach overhead, kneel, or stoop in order to conduct business.
  • Regularly lift 10 or fewer pounds.
  • Use of one’s personal vehicle (or LU vehicles) may be required for travel in the performance of the essential functions of this position.
  • Proof of a valid Virginia driver’s license, an acceptable DMV record, and liability insurance is required.

Responsibilities

  • Remains abreast of existing and emerging technologies, processes, products, and services.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of and adherence to NCAA and institutional rules and regulations.
  • Provide presentation of support to athletes and parents during on-campus recruiting visits for athletic programs.
  • Provide support, oversite, and direction for applied performance initiatives.
  • Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU’s mission.
  • Strictly adheres to Liberty University policies, representing the University in an exemplary manner.
