About The Position

The Assistant Coach or Associate Head Coach for Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving/Aquatics Operations Manager plays a significant leadership role in the administration and daily operation of the CMS Swimming and Diving program. The position is responsible for independently leading and overseeing designated aspects of the program, including but not limited to: planning and conducting team training sessions and practices; recruiting and evaluating prospective scholar-athletes; coordinating team travel and operational logistics; supporting scholar-athlete development and well-being; managing aquatics operations; and ensuring compliance with all applicable institutional, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations. In collaboration with the Head Coach, the position exercises independent judgment and decision-making in the development, implementation, and management of program strategies, culture, and operations. The role may supervise assigned staff, student workers, or operational areas and is responsible for carrying out administrative and programmatic responsibilities essential to the success of the swimming and diving program. Additionally, this position will collaborate with CMS Recreation to manage all aspects of Axelrood Pool facility operations, ensuring a safe, engaging, and well-managed environment for students, staff, and faculty. Requirements

A bachelor’s degree or any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is required.
Previous collegiate participation and coaching are preferred.
Experience in the recruitment of academically focused scholar-athletes is preferred.
A valid driver’s license is required to drive College-owned vehicles and the ability to be insured under the College’s authorized driver’s policy.
National certification as a lifeguard and lifeguard instructor, and certification in CPR and first aid are required.
Deploy professional skills, in collaboration with colleagues, to best promote the College’s strategic interests.
An evident understanding of the role of athletics in the liberal arts college environment is necessary along with proven experience in recruiting student-athletes to highly selective institutions.
Strong administrative, interpersonal skills, and computer/technology skills.
Appropriate certifications in Lifeguarding, Lifeguard Certification, First Aid, CPR, AED or willingness to complete certifications upon hire.
Must be proficient in basic Microsoft Office software (such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) and associated professional software (such as Internet research, and menu-driven databases).
Must demonstrate understanding of the use of equipment in assessing and improving department systems and processes to achieve annual goals and maintain confidentiality.
Demonstrate effective, accurate, and clear communication with excellent/strong verbal, written, interpersonal, reading, phone, and customer service skills.
Follow all written and verbal instructions, asking questions as needed for clarification of duties.
Use strong organizational and time management skills to complete work with accuracy and a keen attention to detail.

Responsibilities

Independently develop, implement, and oversee training plans, practice instruction, and competitive preparation for designated training groups and/or program areas in partnership with the Head Coach, while contributing to the overall strategic direction and performance development of the Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving program.
Lead and manage designated administrative and operational aspects of the program, including but not limited to: timely completion of administrative processes and documentation; coordination of team travel logistics; development of practice plans; scholar-athlete and team culture development; aquatics operations; and collaboration with CMS Athletics staff in the areas of sports medicine, business operations, compliance, equipment, facilities, and event management.
Exercise independent judgment in prioritizing and executing operational responsibilities essential to the success of the program.
Play a leadership role in the recruitment and retention of academically and athletically qualified student-athletes for the highly selective liberal arts institutions of Claremont McKenna College, Harvey Mudd College, and Scripps College, including identifying and evaluating prospects, cultivating relationships with prospective student-athletes and families, and guiding recruits through the admissions and enrollment process.
Comply with all rules and guidelines set forth by the NCAA Division III, CMS Athletics, and the SCIAC (Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference), reporting any violations or concerns to the CMS Compliance Department.
Remain in good standing of all required training and certifications, including but not limited to concussion management, mental health resources, and sexual violence prevention.
Represent the CMS Athletic Department and the Swimming and Diving program in a positive manner within the SCIAC as well as regionally and nationally.
Recruit, certify, oversee, and schedule lifeguards to ensure optimal support for the Swimming and Diving, Water Polo, and CMS Recreation programs.
Occasionally lifeguard the pool.
Collaborate with CMS Recreation on Aquatics programming and scheduling.
Monitor that the facility and equipment are operating correctly, working with the Internal Operations and Facilities Manager and Director of Athletic Facilities and Sport Operations to address any issues promptly.
