About The Position

Under the supervision of the Head Coach, the Assistant Coach is responsible for furthering the mission of the University, the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and the Bulldog Track & Field program. The Assistant Coach must comply with all University, National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) rules and policies. The full-time Assistant Coach will serve as the Operations Coordinator for the Track & Field and Cross-Country programs as well as support, as assigned, the head coach in the planning, administering, and evaluating of various aspects of the operations of those programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Minimum of one year of Track & Field coaching experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit and attract high-achieving student-athletes.
  • Clear understanding of NCAA Division III philosophy and the role of physical education, recreational sports, and athletics within a private, liberal arts academic setting.
  • Valid California Class C driver’s license with a good driving record, or the ability to obtain one within ten (10) days of appointment in accordance with California Vehicle Code 12505(c).

Responsibilities

  • Identify and recruit qualified prospective student-athletes based on ongoing roster expectations determined by the Head Coach, Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletic, and the Admissions Team.
  • Maintain effective and consistent communication with prospective student-athletes and Admissions Office.
  • Arrange and conduct on- and off-campus visits with prospective student-athletes.
  • Play a significant role in equipment management, purchasing, and upkeep for the track & field and cross-country teams.
  • Oversee the plan development and implementation for travel, nutritious team meals, and organizational logistics for competitions.
  • Coordinate set-up for practices and home meets.
  • Support of operational systems that help maintain consistency across event groups and team functions.
  • With collaboration from the head coach, oversee the throwers while maintaining professionalism, open communication, reliability, strong organizational skills, and cultural alignment.
  • Function as an active team member of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics by attending all required staff meetings and completing mandatory trainings.
  • A collateral departmental administrative assignment to be performed in support of programs and the Such assignment will be determined by the strengths, skills, and experience of the successful candidate.
  • Performs other duties and special projects when assigned to support team, departmental, and/or University-wide needs.
