About The Position

Amherst College invites applications for the Assistant Coach Men’s & Women’s Track & Field position. The Assistant Coach Men’s & Women’s Track & Field is a full-time, 9-month position. The salary offered will vary based on a number of factors, including but not limited to relevant education, training, and experience, tenure status, and other nondiscriminatory business considerations. The Assistant Coach - Men’s & Women’s Track & Field supports the team's Head Coach in all aspects of the program's operation. This includes student-athlete development, recruiting, team logistics, and compliance. The role requires flexibility to work some nights, weekends, and to travel overnight for away games and tournaments. The Assistant Coach - Men’s & Women’s Track & Field takes appropriate actions to support a diverse student body and workforce and participates in the College’s efforts to create a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming environment. This is a 9-month position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree, or 4-6 years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Collegiate playing and/or coaching experience (collegiate or competitive level preferred).
  • Understanding of the role of athletics in a competitive academic environment.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to drive college vehicles; must successfully complete the Five College Risk Management driver credentialing program.
  • Willingness and availability to work nights, weekends, and travel overnight as required.
  • Successful completion of required reference and background checks.
  • An acceptable criminal offender records information (CORI) check.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Head Coach with planning and conducting daily practices.
  • Provide technical instruction, skill development, and individual feedback to student-athletes.
  • May provide preparation and logistical support for games and tournaments.
  • Foster an environment focused on growth, accountability, and team cohesion.
  • Assist with the identification, evaluation, and recruitment of prospective student-athletes.
  • Communicate with recruits and their families through phone, email, and in-person visits.
  • Coordinate and participate in on-campus recruiting visits and events.
  • Ensure all recruiting activities comply with institutional, conference, and NCAA guidelines.
  • Manage team travel logistics, including transportation, lodging, and meals for away contests.
  • Drive college vehicles to practices, games, and tournaments as necessary.
  • Assist in equipment management and inventory control.
  • Maintain records related to team activities, recruiting, and travel.
  • Assist the Head Coach with administrative tasks and program planning as needed.
