About The Position

The Assistant Coach for Men’s Ice Hockey supports the Head Coach in all aspects of program operations, including student-athlete development, recruitment, academic support, and team logistics. This role assists in planning and directing training, evaluating student-athlete performance, and fostering a positive team culture that emphasizes athletic excellence, academic success, and personal growth. The Assistant Coach must demonstrate knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations and possess a strong understanding of hockey concepts, practices, and procedures. This position operates under general supervision and requires sound judgment, initiative, and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities effectively.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and video analysis platforms (e.g., Synergy or similar tools).
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to mentor student-athletes.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with staff, student-athletes, recruits, and their families.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to NCAA Division II rules, regulations, and compliance.

Nice To Haves

  • Collegiate coaching and/or playing experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Head Coach in monitoring and supporting strength and conditioning programs.
  • Support on-ice and off-ice coaching activities, including practice planning and implementation, as well as individual and team instruction.
  • Assist with academic oversight for student-athletes, including study hall supervision, academic progress monitoring, and related meetings.
  • Participate in recruiting efforts, including prospect evaluation, database management, correspondence, and phone outreach.
  • Provide input on the evaluation and development of student athletes.
  • Complete the NCAA recruiting certification exam.
  • Assist with scouting opponents and preparing game strategies.
  • Support the coordination and planning of team travel within budgetary guidelines.
  • Assist with planning and execution of fundraising events and special functions in alignment with departmental initiatives.
  • Promote and support the academic success, personal development, and well-being of student-athletes.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned in collaboration with the Head Coach and Athletic Director.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and clean driving record. Post University uses MVR reporting as part of the candidate screening process.
