About The Position

Muhlenberg College, a Division III institution and a member of the Centennial Conference, is seeking applications for a part-time Assistant Softball Coach (PT-Fall Only). This specialized position focuses exclusively on athletic performance enhancement. The successful candidate will be a speed and agility specialist responsible for elevating the team’s running mechanics, acceleration, change-of-direction ability, and explosiveness. Candidates with strength and conditioning experience and a four-year college degree are preferred.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in exercise science, kinesiology, strength and conditioning, physical education, or a closely related field.
  • Specialized experience designing and leading speed, agility, and explosiveness training programs, preferably with softball, baseball, or other fast-twitch athletes.
  • Demonstrated expertise in running mechanics, acceleration, change-of-direction, and plyometric training.
  • Excellent communication and motivational skills with the ability to inspire collegiate student-athletes.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in tracking athletic performance.
  • Ability to work flexible fall practice hours (1-2 sessions per week).
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship.
  • Must reside within, or independently relocate to, a reasonable commuting distance of the College before the position’s start date.

Responsibilities

  • Under the general direction of the head coach, lead specialized speed, agility, and explosiveness training for the softball team during the fall season.
  • Attend 1-2 practices per week in the fall to deliver high-quality, targeted sessions focused on running form and mechanics, acceleration, agility, and explosive power.
  • Design and implement individualized and position-specific drills that enhance base running, defensive quickness, and overall athletic performance.
  • Collaborate with the head coach to integrate athletic development into the team’s fall training plan.
  • Track player progress and performance metrics to ensure measurable gains in speed and explosiveness.
  • Support the head coach in advancing the program’s goal of becoming one of the fastest and most explosive teams in the country.
  • Attend meetings and training as required by the head coach and Athletics department.
  • May perform other duties related to athletic performance as assigned.
  • Help foster a culture of athletic excellence and commitment to continuous improvement among student-athletes.
