About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Head Coach, Athletic Director, and Principal, the Assistant Coach for Girls Freshman Basketball is responsible for carrying out the aims and objectives of the sport program. This includes instructing athletes in individual and team fundamentals, strategy, and physical training necessary to achieve individual and team success. The coach must have a thorough knowledge of and implement all athletic policies approved by the Governing Board, as well as existing school district, state, and regional regulations. The role involves maintaining discipline, fostering morale and cooperation, and adhering to the proper administrative line of command. Administrative duties include assisting the head coach with scheduling, transportation, event preparation, and coordinating with school staff. The coach is also accountable for equipment, ensuring its proper use, care, and inventory, and maintaining the security of facilities.

Requirements

  • Current, valid Arizona Level One IVP fingerprint clearance card, issued by the Arizona DPS
  • Valid Arizona driver's license with clean driving record
  • Ability and willingness to drive a small van to transport students to athletic events
  • Coaching and/or playing experience in assigned sport
  • Knowledge and background in assigned sport
  • Professional development activities in pedagogy and methodology of the assigned sport
  • Must be CPR certified prior to second full season

Responsibilities

  • Carries out the aims and objectives of the sport program as outlined by the head coach and school administration.
  • Instructs athletes in individual and team fundamentals, strategy, and physical training.
  • Maintains discipline and works to increase morale and cooperation within the school sports program and school community.
  • Assists the head coach in scheduling, providing transportation to tournaments and special sport events.
  • Assists in preparation for scheduled sport events or practices and adheres to scheduled facility times.
  • Coordinates program with maintenance and school employees.
  • Provides to the athletic director documentation necessary to fulfill school, district, and state requirements concerning physical examinations, parental consent, and eligibility.
  • Is accountable to the head coach for all equipment, collecting the cost of any equipment lost or not returned.
  • Arranges issuing, marking, and storing of equipment and submits an annual inventory and current records.
  • Monitors locker rooms, equipment room, training room, and coaches' offices and authorizes who may enter.
  • Secures all doors, lights, windows, and locks before leaving the building.
  • Instills in each player a respect for equipment and school property, its care, and proper use.
