About The Position

Amherst College invites applications for the Assistant Coach - Field Hockey position. This is a full-time, 5-month position with an expected salary range of $15,000 - $15,833. The offered salary will vary based on relevant education, training, experience, tenure status, and other nondiscriminatory business considerations. The Assistant Field Hockey Coach supports the Head Coach in all aspects of the program, including student-athlete development, recruiting, team logistics, and compliance. The role requires flexibility to work some nights, weekends, and to travel overnight for away games and tournaments. The Assistant Field Hockey Coach actively supports a diverse student body and workforce and contributes to creating a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree, or 4-6 years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Prior coaching experience (collegiate or competitive level preferred).
  • Understanding of the role of athletics in a competitive academic environment.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to drive college vehicles; must successfully complete the Five College Risk Management driver credentialing program.
  • Willingness and availability to work nights, weekends, and travel overnight as required.
  • Successful completion of required reference and background checks.
  • An acceptable criminal offender records information (CORI) check.

  • Collegiate or competitive level coaching experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Head Coach with planning and conducting daily practices.
  • Provide technical instruction, skill development, and individual feedback to student-athletes.
  • May provide preparation and logistical support for games and tournaments.
  • Foster an environment focused on growth, accountability, and team cohesion.
  • Assist with the identification, evaluation, and recruitment of prospective student-athletes.
  • Communicate with recruits and their families through phone, email, and in-person visits.
  • Coordinate and participate in on-campus recruiting visits and events.
  • Ensure all recruiting activities comply with institutional, conference, and NCAA guidelines.
  • Manage team travel logistics, including transportation, lodging, and meals for away contests.
  • Drive college vehicles to practices, games, and tournaments as necessary.
  • Assist in equipment management and inventory control.
  • Maintain records related to team activities, recruiting, and travel.
  • Assist the Head Coach with administrative tasks and program planning as needed.
