About The Position

The Assistant Coach II works under the general supervision of the Head Basketball Coach. The principal duties will be to serve as an Assistant Coach. This role requires a commitment to meeting the educational goals of Navarro College’s students in an environment that promotes intellectual growth and develops human potential. The position demands collegiality, collaboration, and the highest degree of professionalism, integrity, and respect when interacting with students, faculty, staff, and administration. The coach must observe proper communication channels, enforce college policies, and support college programs. Teaching assigned walk-on basketball classes and maintaining office hours are also key responsibilities. Active involvement in student recruitment, advising, and retention is expected. The ideal candidate will be ethical, responsible, adaptable, and willing to seek opportunities for personal and professional growth, embracing the mission and objectives of Navarro College with a passion for teaching and coaching in athletic and fitness fields.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Must be familiar with NJCAA, Region XIV, and Navarro College scholarship guidelines.
  • Must have a minimum of three years of collegiate basketball coaching experience.
  • Must be familiar with NJCAA, Region XIV and Navarro College scholarship and eligibility guidelines.
  • Must demonstrate good interpersonal relationship, communication, organizational, and recruiting skills.
  • Must be able to maintain order and discipline.
  • Must be able to pay attention to details.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous basketball coaching experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning and organizing practices on a daily basis during the Spring and Fall.
  • Ensure that the recruitment of prospective athletes is carried out efficiently, in accordance with college, conference, and national regulations.
  • Serve as a role model for the student athlete and comply with college expectations regarding decorum.
  • Teach assigned walk-on basketball classes each full-time term.
  • Conduct adequate tracking and record keeping of student performance and outcomes.
  • Active involvement in student recruitment, advising and retention is expected.
  • Teaching all classes as assigned or scheduled and maintaining normal office hours.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Head Basketball Coach.
