About The Position

This role involves learning and performing various tasks related to CNC milling operations. The Assistant CNC Mill Operator will follow work instructions, report on assigned work orders, and learn machine setups, program selection, and part inspection. The position requires the use of measurement tools for in-process inspections, cleaning and deburring parts, and becoming proficient with cutting tools and hand tools. The operator will monitor equipment, ensure parts meet quality standards, and maintain a clean and safe work area. The job also emphasizes teamwork, reliability, and a willingness to learn and adapt.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including who to communicate with regarding their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective operations for the safety of people, property, and Sioux Manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and their applications.
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
  • Knowledge to identify underlying principles, reasons, or facts of information by breaking down information or data into separate parts to improve skills and/or department processes.
  • Knowledge to develop constructive and working relationships with others to cooperatively work together and achieve quality products timely and support positive interactions over time.
  • Use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Be able to effectively communicate information to co-workers, department supervisors, department management, and ensure accurate transition of that information.

Responsibilities

  • Correctly follow applicable work instructions/processes, such as work order, traveler, MPS, engineer directives, and other documented work instructions.
  • Report on assigned work orders.
  • Follow verbal instructions from supervisor, maintenance, safety, and engineering personnel, including the required use of personal protective equipment.
  • Learn to perform fixture/part setups, select appropriate program, set machine G54 home location, and perform part inspection.
  • Correctly complete documentation and load/unload cutting tools.
  • Learn to run computer numerical control (CNC) programs and ensure conformance to requirements per documented and verbal instructions.
  • Ensure all standard operating procedures are being properly followed.
  • Correctly use measurement tools (caliper, micrometer, etc.) to perform in-process inspections to ensure tolerances are being met.
  • Clean and debur parts as required.
  • Become proficient in loading/unloading appropriate cutting tools and change tooling when required (router bits, drills, mills, grit tooling, etc.).
  • Use various hand tools (wrench, ratchet, screwdriver, etc.).
  • Monitor and review information from materials, or the work area, and communicate with proper personnel when a problem is assessed or detected.
  • Inspect equipment, structures, materials to learn to identify correct operation and/or cause of errors, other problems, or defects.
  • Promptly notify maintenance or machinist of any observed changes in operation.
  • Per standard operating procedures submit completed parts to Quality Assurance for inspection and approval.
  • Prior to production runs, and as required, submit all first piece and in process parts to Quality Assurance for approval.
  • Develop specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish work.
  • Correctly evaluate quality of materials and/or products and record operational and/or production data as each position requires per standard operating procedures.
  • Properly maintain production equipment while following all safety procedures and processes.
  • Continually keep work areas clean, free of safety hazards, and assist others in the process as needed.
  • Learn to check machine oil systems.
  • Empty shop vacuum and clean or change filters.
  • Clean machine (wipe down and remove material chips and dust).
  • Watch gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.
  • Give full attention to what other people are saying, take time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
  • Monitor performance, other individuals, and/or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action.
  • Adjust actions in relation to others' actions as needed.
  • Be aware of others' reactions and understand why they react as they do.
  • Manage own time and be aware of the time of others.
  • Assist with other departmental operations and/or projects as assigned and/or requested.
  • Other duties as assigned by Engineering or supervisor.
