About The Position

Emory University Division of Hospital Medicine invites applications for a full-time Hospitalist to join the new Gut Failure Program at Emory University Hospital. This unique opportunity takes place in Emory’s flagship hospital, Emory University Hospital (EUH), where we are enhancing and standardizing the care team that manages complex gut failure patients in collaboration with the Department of Surgery and the Division of Gastroenterology. The Gut Failure Program is designed to treat patients with diagnoses including; fistulas, short bowel syndrome, peritoneal abscesses, complicated and recurrent intestinal adhesions and/or obstructions, incisional & parastomal hernias (requiring complex abdominal wall reconstruction,) complicated pancreatitis, gastrointestinal hemorrhage, and other conditions of the digestive tract leading to intestinal resections and short gut.

Requirements

  • BC ABIM with an active GA medical license or the ability to obtain one
  • History of effective teaching and successful mentoring across professions in inpatient settings

  • Experience providing hospital medicine care at a high acuity academic medical center

Responsibilities

  • Dedicate at least 50% of clinical time to the Gut Failure Team, to enhance skills and knowledge in the management of gut failure patients, with the remaining time used to rotate on other hospitalist services to maintain broader experience and skills
  • Co-lead the medical management for gut failure patients by establishing a comprehensive service to optimize care delivery for those with complicated pathophysiology, in partnership with General Surgery, Gastroenterology, APPs, nurses, dietary and psychology teams, social work, etc...
  • Lead quality and patient safety initiatives relating to patient outcomes and care management
  • Pursue academic responsibilities, in addition to the promotion of service excellence by educating and leading trainees and other care team members.
