About The Position

Emory University is seeking an Assistant Professor of Medicine for its Gut Failure Program within the Division of Hospital Medicine. This role involves partnering with surgical teams and other healthcare professionals to optimize the care of complex gastrointestinal fistula and short-gut patients. The hospitalist will dedicate at least 50% of their clinical work to the Gut Failure Team, with opportunities to rotate on other hospitalist services at Emory University Hospital, including the teaching service. This position aims to enhance skills in managing gut failure patients while maintaining broader hospitalist experience.

Requirements

• Must be a physician hospitalist.
• Must be able to perform position tasks in-person at an Emory University location; working remote is not an option.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in managing complex gastrointestinal fistula and short-gut patients.
• Experience in managing patients with fistulas, short bowel syndrome, intestinal adhesions/obstructions, peritoneal abscesses, complex abdominal wall reconstruction, complicated pancreatitis, gastrointestinal hemorrhage, and conditions leading to multiple intestinal resections and short gut.

Responsibilities

• Participate in the medical management of gut failure patients in partnership with other care team members.
• Engage in strong and effective partnerships with general surgeons, APPs, nurses, GI, dietary, psychology, social work, trainees, and hospital operational staff on all aspects of gut failure patient care.
