This role assists PCC leadership with the day-to-day operations of Surgical Services to ensure high-quality and cost-effective patient care. The Assistant Clinical Manager serves in the role of Charge Nurse, assigning patient and non-patient care tasks in a safe and effective manner, and maintaining staffing requirements in accordance with established policies and patient volume. This position collaborates with physicians, management, and other healthcare professionals to ensure the delivery of quality care and high patient satisfaction. The role contributes to achieving system, site, and unit goals by prioritizing duties and responsibilities, and assures accurate reporting of census, acuity, and staffing. The Assistant Clinical Manager also ensures the availability of appropriate supplies, monitors reports, and ensures compliance with all regulatory agency standards and hospital policies. Patient safety is promoted through reporting issues and participating in safety initiatives. The role practices Performance Improvement principles to contribute to positive patient outcomes, responds to patient and family concerns, and demonstrates support for unit-based performance improvement plans. Recommendations for improvement are made, and the incumbent assists in the Performance Improvement Process. A current knowledge of Mission, Philosophy, Policies, and Procedures is maintained. The Assistant Clinical Manager serves as a clinical resource to staff, collaborates with the health care team to facilitate the Care Management process, and serves as a role model for “Service First” standards. They facilitate Service Recovery, take initiative with problem resolution and conflict management, and participate with PCC leadership to provide a positive work environment for staff growth and development. Major rule violations and work performance issues are referred to management. The role assists with data collection/tracking for education/in-service of assigned staff, assists with the development of staff competencies and skills checklists, and facilitates staff attendance at in-services by providing appropriate coverage. Positive coaching/mentoring skills are practiced to foster staff growth and development. Timely and objective performance pathways are conducted for assigned staff, subject to review with management. Educational needs of the staff are assessed, and education opportunities are facilitated. Orientation of new staff is coordinated. Individuals are assisted with identifying professional goals and provided opportunities to achieve them. Staff concerning matters involving minor performance variances and minor disciplinary counseling are addressed, and management is consulted if written disciplinary action is warranted. The role is responsible for personal/professional growth and development, keeping abreast of current standards of care, and proactively seeking out education opportunities, including earning 10 continuing education hours annually (8 of which must be Pediatric specific). Participation in activities to enhance professional growth through involvement in professional organizations and continuing education is expected. Clinical expertise in pediatrics is maintained, serving as a resource and role model for clinical care. The incumbent serves on various unit and hospital committees to increase knowledge and networking skills.
