This temporary full-time position (until February 2028) reports to the Clinical Manager of Hematology/Oncology and focuses on leading the advancement of quality and safety at the program level. The Assistant Clinical Manager will be the primary leader for daily operations, serving as the first resource for staff on issues related to quality and safety, patient and family relations, and delegated human resources functions. The role requires excellent leadership, organization, and communication skills, with engagement across staff, medical staff, patients, and families.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or other health field (Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic requirements)

Responsibilities

  • Work in collaboration with the Clinical Manager to develop departmental goals and strategies.
  • Partner with quality improvement team to build knowledge within team about CHEOworks tools and processes.
  • Participate in unit huddles and Leader Rounding with staff as well as patients/families.
  • Work in collaboration with the Staffing Office to ensure adequate coverage of staff to provide quality service to patients and families in the PSU.
  • Act as leader and change agent in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Lead team morale, wellness initiatives within team.
  • Ensure that staff has adequate training in order to provide quality service to patients and families in the PSU.
  • Lead the implementation of Solutions for Patient Safety (SPS) bundles and culture initiatives (ie. safety coaches).
  • Participate in evaluation and continuous improvement processes related to this role.
  • Represent the PSU on unit, program, and hospital committees as required.
  • Monitor and investigate safety reports and implement/improve systems to reduce errors and safety events.
  • Organize and lead inventory reviews and facilitate ordering as required.
  • Participate in product evaluation processes and notify team of relevant changes (i.e. Back orders, new product, etc.).
  • Monitor data and report on regular basis: Human resource trends impacting budget such as OT, consecutive weekend, etc.; Patient care activity data such as visit volume, admissions/discharges, wait times, etc.; safety data such as hand hygiene compliance, # of CLABSIs, safety reporting system trends; Recruitment, orientation, training/development, retention, sick time, vacation, leaves, etc.
  • Develop protocol/practices and policies that maximize team collaboration, standardize processes, support project completion and evaluation.
  • Be flexible and adaptable to program needs.
