About The Position

UPMC Altoona is launching the UPMC Mercy School of Nursing at Altoona, a 16-month diploma program for aspiring nurses, starting Fall 2026. We are seeking casual Assistant Nursing Instructors passionate about clinical teaching and student development. These roles involve working two 8-hour days per week, Monday through Friday, between 8 am and 5 pm. Applicants from all clinical backgrounds are welcome. This is a new program, offering faculty the chance to influence its direction with mentorship from experienced UPMC Schools of Nursing faculty. The Assistant Nursing Instructor is responsible for providing high-quality clinical instruction to nursing students, requiring strong clinical competence, sound judgment, and the ability to guide, mentor, and evaluate students during clinical practicum experiences.

Requirements

  • BSN required
  • 3 years of clinical practice, required
  • Precepting experience required
  • Must be enrolled in an MSN program with a 3 year completion plan
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
  • CPR Certification for BLS for Health Care Providers.
  • Current Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse.
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
  • Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
