About The Position

The YMCA of Greater Erie is seeking an Assistant Childcare Director for its Eastside YMCA location. This role is ideal for someone passionate about fostering child and teacher development, organized, and dedicated to community youth. The position involves managing childcare and school-age programs, ensuring safety and high-quality standards, supporting staff, and facilitating child and parent onboarding. Key responsibilities include daily communication with parents, maintaining relationships with licensing agencies and community organizations, spending time in classrooms, organizing special events, and ensuring accurate record-keeping in compliance with STARS, DHS, and YMCA standards. The role requires active participation in family events and program activities.

Requirements

  • At least 18 years of age
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent, to qualify as a Group Supervisor under DHS
  • Three or more years of related experience preferred, as a coordinator or supervisor of childcare programs
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Completion of New Employee Orientation, Mandated Reporter, Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff; Working with Program Volunteers; Pediatric CPR/ First Aid/ AED; Bloodborne Pathogens, and other OSHA required trainings, Fire and Water Safety Training within 30 days of hire.
  • Fulfillment of PA-specific pre-hiring standards (Act 33/34, FBI Clearance, Pass Physical and Mantoux Tine test) and completion of YMCA program specific certifications.

  • Act 33 and 34 Clearances are required.
  • Acceptable Act 151 clearances, Mantoux tine test, National Sex Offender Registry (NSOR) clearance and other requirements as dictated by the Office of Child Development and Early Learning (OCDEL) for those hired to work directly in licensed child care operations.

Responsibilities

  • Manage, direct, and coordinate day care and/or school-age childcare programs for the assigned location.
  • Ensure all high-quality program standards and procedures are followed, with a strong focus on safety.
  • Support employees by helping to develop strategies for children and providing a learning environment.
  • Actively enroll new children and facilitate the onboarding of each child and their parents into the Y Program.
  • Communicate with parents on a daily basis.
  • Develop or maintain relationships with state child care licensing agencies, school administration, parent groups, and other related organizations.
  • Respond to all agency, parent, and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
  • Spend a minimum of 15 hours per week in the classroom, as scheduled or needed.
  • Organize special events for parents.
  • Keep records up to date and accurate in accordance with STARS and DHS requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with YMCA standards and government regulations.
  • Attend and participate in all family events and program activities as assigned.
