About The Position

The Assistant Chief Engineer supports the daily operation, maintenance, and performance of building systems to ensure a safe, reliable, and efficient facility environment. This role is responsible for overseeing preventive and corrective maintenance activities across HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and other critical building systems while providing leadership and technical guidance to the engineering team. The Assistant Chief Engineer contributes to JLL’s operational goals by delivering exceptional customer service, maintaining compliance with safety standards, supporting building performance initiatives, and identifying opportunities for operational efficiencies and cost savings.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required; technical training or degree in engineering, facilities maintenance, or related field preferred.
  • Current Universal EPA/CFC certification required.
  • Minimum of four years of experience in commercial building engineering or facilities maintenance, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and general building systems.
  • Valid Tennessee Driver’s License required.
  • Experience using CMMS platforms and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Strong troubleshooting, communication, and leadership skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability to respond on-site to emergency service calls within forty-five minutes of notification.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of trade school education or completion of a formal apprenticeship program in HVAC, electrical, refrigeration, plumbing, or related trades.
  • Hands-on experience with commercial building system design, repair, and maintenance.
  • Ability to serve as acting Chief Engineer during absences or coverage needs.
  • Familiarity with OSHA regulations, safety programs, and compliance standards.
  • Experience identifying operational efficiencies and cost-saving opportunities.
  • Experience working in museum environments and/or historic facilities.
  • Knowledge of Building Automation Systems and energy management practices.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support engineering staff in performing preventive and corrective maintenance on HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and other building systems.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and respond to operational issues related to facility equipment and Building Automation Systems (BAS).
  • Manage and complete work orders through the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) while ensuring compliance with service level agreements and client expectations.
  • Conduct routine facility inspections, equipment readings, and building rounds to identify maintenance needs and ensure proper system operation.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance, safety, and compliance documentation in accordance with OSHA regulations and JLL safety policies.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to tenants, clients, and vendors while minimizing disruption to building operations.
  • Support inventory management, emergency response activities, and participation in after-hours or on-call coverage as required.
