About The Position

The Assistant Chief Engineer plays a key role in supporting the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of a commercial office property. This position assists in leading day-to-day engineering operations, maintaining critical building systems, and supporting projects and upgrades that enhance building performance and occupant experience. Working closely with the Chief Engineer, the role contributes to operational excellence, energy efficiency, regulatory compliance, and service delivery aligned with JLL’s standards and client objectives.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong working knowledge and familiarity with Building Automation Systems (BAS) for HVAC is essential.
  • 5–7 years of progressive experience in commercial building operations and maintenance.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a supervisory or lead engineering role.
  • Demonstrated hands-on knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire/life safety systems, and building controls.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in mechanical rooms, rooftops, and varying environmental conditions.
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree in Building Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Experience with BAS platforms such as Tridium, Johnson Controls, Siemens, Honeywell, or similar systems.
  • Working knowledge of computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Excel and maintenance or performance reporting.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and vendor management skills.
  • Experience supporting regulatory inspections, audits, and safety programs.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions under pressure.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in directing daily engineering operations, supervising maintenance staff, and supporting staffing schedules and coverage.
  • Monitor and operate building automation systems (BAS) to optimize system performance and energy efficiency.
  • Perform and oversee preventive maintenance and routine inspections of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and fire/life safety systems.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and support repair of complex equipment and system issues using technical documentation and diagnostic tools.
  • Respond to emergencies and support after-hours, on-call, and weekend coverage as required
  • Assist with capital projects, system upgrades, and vendor coordination; review contractor work for quality, safety, and code compliance.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, and compliance documentation using CMMS and reporting tools.
