About The Position

The DoubleTree by Hilton- Nashville Downtown is seeking an Assistant Chief Engineer to join their team. This role is responsible for assisting the Chief Engineer in managing the operational functionality of the building, including electrical, mechanical, and general construction, repair, and maintenance. The engineering team ensures the repair, service, and preventative maintenance of all hotel systems and equipment. This position offers the opportunity to provide amazing guest service while maintaining the building's infrastructure. Requirements

  • Considerable knowledge of mathematical skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) necessary to interpret electrical, mechanical, and building systems.
  • Considerable knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems with the ability to analyze their design intent and performance.
  • Considerable knowledge of construction and building systems.
  • Ability to analyze trends in utility consumption reports to predict energy forecasts and set up energy conservation programs.
  • Ability to write and speak English to comprehend and communicate job functions to engineering staff.
  • Ability to grasp, lift and/or carry or otherwise move goods weighing a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Ability to climb stairs, ladders, or use a man lift to work at heights up to 30 feet, often reaching above head.
  • Ability to perform duties in confined space and in awkward positions.
  • Ability to perform tasks requiring bending, stooping, kneeling, walking, and standing for an extended period of time.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and continuously perform essential job functions for an extended period of time.
  • Ability to hear a change in pitch of high-speed mechanical equipment.
  • Visual ability to read manufacturers' instructions, schematics, and blueprints and to determine wire colors for safe repair and detect emergency situations.
  • Ability to remain calm in emergency situations and to effectively deal with internal and external customers, some of whom will require patience, tact, and diplomacy to defuse anger, collect accurate information, and solve customer concerns.
  • Ability to instruct subordinates and accomplish goals on a timely basis.
  • Ability to translate technical information or problems into layman's terms.
  • Finger and hand dexterity to manipulate switches and buttons, a computer keyboard, and a 10-key calculator.
  • Engineering degree or equivalent in college education and related experience.
  • Five to ten years combination in school and hands-on work experience in buildings with complex electrical systems preferred.
  • Experience in coordination of electrical requirements for conventions and meetings.
  • Broad, practical experience in the fields of stationary engineering, building maintenance, plumbing, and electrical wiring.
  • Familiarity with the work and limitations of various crafts, particularly licensed workers employed in building maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Chief Engineer in administering programs involving electrical, mechanical, and general construction, repair, and maintenance of existing facilities and equipment.
  • Oversee the operation of plant utilities such as gas, electric, air conditioning systems, and water.
  • Assign and verify completion of routine maintenance and operation of the physical structure of the hotel, all mechanical, electrical, and HVAC systems, and related equipment.
  • Visually inspect the quality of work and direct staff and outside contractors in tasks according to performance and productivity standards.
  • Act as Chief Engineer in their absence, including hiring, counseling, and training, and completing special projects assigned to the Chief Engineer.
  • Communicate effectively with city officials to ensure proper maintenance of permits and licenses, including coordinating building inspections with the fire department and Buildings department for elevators and escalators.
  • Coordinate and search the building with Secret Service and other officials to ensure the safety of diplomats and hotel guests.
  • Act as a liaison between the hotel and vendors to review the latest in hotel technology and products.
  • Assume responsibilities of supervisors in their absence.
  • Negotiate contracts between the hotel and outside contractors.
  • Assist Chief Engineer in the establishment and control of the annual budget.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by the Department Head.
