About The Position

The Assistant Chief Engineer is responsible for supervising and training all Engineering staff, overseeing all projects, and coordinating staff scheduling. This role also involves assisting in the creation and adherence to the annual department budget, developing and implementing plans to maintain the property, equipment, and grounds, and assisting in creating and implementing a preventive maintenance program for all hotel equipment. The Assistant Chief Engineer must execute periodic inspections of all safety systems, ensure prompt and courteous handling of room maintenance requests, and follow up immediately on all alarms to determine their cause and report findings. They will take necessary immediate action, design construction and repair projects, check employee appearance for compliance with standards, and assist in training all positions within the department. Immediate supervisors must be kept fully informed of all challenges or matters requiring attention. The Assistant Chief Engineer must be able to perform all department duties and ensure staff adheres to Loss Prevention guidelines, and assist as Property Security as requested. Responsibilities also include maintaining the pool and spa, which involves cleaning, vacuuming, adjusting chemical levels, changing valves, and replacing filters, as well as maintaining records of chemical balances. Other duties as required and participation in staff and other meetings are also part of the role.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Previous customer service & hotel experience preferred
  • At least 3 years of progressive experience in a related field
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred
  • At least 3 years practical experience in one or more of the technical trades (HVAC, Refrigeration, Plumbing, Electrical, etc.)
  • Previous experience with budgeting helpful
  • Any license the property may require
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Working knowledge of all legal issues in compliance with CFC/EPA/ADA/IAQ/OSHA
  • Must be able to stand and/or walk for lengthy periods of time as the property is patrolled and guarded.
  • Must be able to climb stairs, descend stairs
  • Must be able to move quickly and agilely if a situation requiring quick assistance arises

  • Refrigeration, electrical and plumbing skills, boiler operation and maintenance skills, water treatment and chiller operation knowledge

Responsibilities

  • Assist in training of all positions within department
  • Keep immediate supervisors fully informed of all challenges or matters requiring his/her attention
