About The Position

Silver Bay Seafoods is currently looking for an assistant Chief Engineer for one of our processing plants in Alaska. As the Assistant Chief Engineer, you will support the Chief Engineer in overseeing the maintenance and engineering operations of our Alaskan processing facility. You will play a key role in assessing plant-wide maintenance needs, executing preventative maintenance schedules, and supervising department heads and personnel across multiple technical disciplines. You will specifically assist in managing complex refrigeration systems including NH3 (anhydrous ammonia), R22, and other refrigerants used in facility and vessel operations.

Requirements

  • Highly experienced in multiple Engineering skills, including general knowledge of Millwright, Hydraulic, Pneumatic, Electrical, Electrical Control, PLC, IT, Plumbing, Refrigeration, Diesel Engines, Rolling Stock, Inventory, Building Maintenance, General Construction, Painting, Fabricating and Welding Processes.
  • Working knowledge of industrial machine and facilities maintenance and repair is necessary.
  • Skills and extensive knowledge and experience in refrigeration theory, operation and maintenance, troubleshooting and repair on both low temp and RSW systems are also a requirement.
  • Project research, project planning, project design, project implementation and project parts ordering.
  • Mechanical, mathematical and analytical skills necessary to diagnose and repair refrigeration/electrical and production related equipment.
  • Able to complete and fulfill paperwork required for material orders, and time sheets.

  • Able to read and understand P&ID Diagrams and follow flow diagrams.
  • Familiar with electronic controls and sensing techniques common to production and refrigeration.
  • Extensive knowledge of electrical systems, safety, national electrical code, and lockout/tag out.
  • Proficient at electrical blueprint reading and electrical circuit diagrams.
  • Proficient at electrical controls troubleshooting and repair.
  • Organized and efficient work habits.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Chief Engineer and Plant/Production Managers in maintaining safe, efficient production speeds and minimizing downtime.
  • Lead engineering and maintenance personnel in troubleshooting and repairing equipment during both peak production and off-season periods.
  • Help enforce company safety policies, identify hazards, and participate in the emergency response team and evacuation supervision.
  • Review material orders and timesheets, ensuring accuracy in specifications and maintaining proper inventory levels for parts and tools.
  • Assist in project research, planning, and implementation of facility modifications or equipment changes.
