About The Position

POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for leading, directing and implementing a structured, educational and recreational summer program adapted for children ages 5-12. Provides quality experience to children and parents focused around the YMCA core values of honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree in Child Development, Early Childhood education or related field and 2 years experience working with children per State of Ohio Licensing Regulations.
  • Working knowledge and demonstrated experience in child development.
  • Previous demonstrated experience working with diverse populations.
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications, Management of Communicable Disease and Child Abuse Prevention training.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily operation and safety of Camp programming.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of camp programming to meet individual developmental and physical needs of children ages 5-12.
  • Supervise the implementation of daily activities, lesson plans and special events.
  • Support the planning and implementation of field trips, in-camp events and special guests.
  • Maintain staff/child ratio as set by the American Camp Association.
  • Ensure all health and safety requirements as described in the YMCA Child Care Risk Management guidelines and the State of Ohio Child care regulations are maintained.
  • Complete administrative work to include but not limited to scheduling group assignments, ensure supplies for activities are available when needed, and creating a newsletter of events/activities.
  • Promote an inclusive, welcoming, and respectful environment that embraces the diversity of all staff and campers, and promotes a positive camp spirit.
  • Assist with the recruitment, supervision, training and assessment of counselors.
  • Report all staffing and camp concerns to supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Manage confidential information.
  • Maintain accurate, complete and timely program records including but is not limited to attendance sheets, sign in/out documents and accident/incident reports.
  • Set-up and break down all program supplies and equipment.
  • Support the development and facilitation of required pre-camp trainings. Actively participate in training sessions, designated meetings and special events.
