About The Position

The Assistant Café Manager leads day-to-day operations across all Quick Bites Café locations at Applied Medical, overseeing food preparation, point-of-sale (POS) systems, and hospitality-related events. This role combines hands-on operational leadership with team development, ensuring every location runs efficiently while delivering a consistently strong customer experience. The Assistant Café Manager brings strong food and beverage knowledge, operational judgment, and a proactive approach to planning and problem solving.

Requirements

  • Demonstrates strong food and beverage knowledge, including familiarity with daily menus and ingredients.
  • Brings experience with hospitality software and point-of-sale (POS) systems.
  • Applies proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, SharePoint, and Outlook.
  • Plans daily operations proactively, anticipating needs and multitasking across café and hospitality-related events under tight deadlines.
  • Adapts quickly and leads effectively in a fast changing business environment.
  • Communicates clearly with team members within Hospitality and across the Applied Medical campus, maintaining a friendly, professional, and outgoing demeanor.
  • Recognizes when operational or food and beverage standards are not being met and coaches team members to improve.
  • Holds a valid driver's license with a good driving record and is comfortable driving a company vehicle.

Responsibilities

  • Leads day-to-day operations of all Quick Bites Café locations, upholding standards for stock checks, product rotation, presentation, and the overall customer journey.
  • Provides exceptional customer service in person and virtually, communicating clearly with the team on menu items, deliveries, and operational challenges.
  • Develops expertise in the Quick Bites Café point-of-sale and labeling systems.
  • Assists with preparing and packaging food with a focus on speed, accuracy, and efficiency, and supports building and implementing menus and cost sheets.
  • Maintains sanitation, cleanliness, and safe food handling practices in accordance with the California Health Code and ensures team compliance.
  • Trains and develops team members through coaching, regular feedback, and hands-on guidance, fostering a supportive team environment.
  • Analyzes sales reports to forecast demand and minimize waste, and reviews operational processes to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Creates and implements product offerings and promotions based on team and customer feedback, and assists in creating and maintaining standard operating procedures.
