About The Position

The Assistant Buyer - Destination, Souvenirs, & Hardgoods provides key operational and analytical support to the Senior Buyer in the development and execution of the Destination Souvenir Hardgoods strategy. This role supports merchandise selection, product development, vendor and factory coordination, item setup, purchasing, and issue resolution to ensure assortments are delivered accurately and on time. The Assistant Buyer will also analyze sales, margin, inventory, and product performance to identify opportunities and support informed buying decisions. This individual will work closely with vendors, factories, Planning, Supply Chain, and Operations to help execute merchandise strategies that drive sales, profitability, and locally relevant assortments across the business.

Requirements

  • BA/BS or equivalent work experience
  • Training that leads to an in-depth understanding of the buying function
  • Knowledge of financial tools and concept profitability; understanding and use of market research and market trend information.
  • Strong vendor relations: Ability to establish and maintain strong relationships.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with people at all job levels, internally and externally.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; Excellent written communication and interpersonal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for purchase order management and administration. This includes order writing, changes, cancellations and providing any necessary follow up (both internally and externally) to ensure key shipments are delivered and processed.
  • Responsible for developing a working knowledge of the buying functions including merchandise selection, negotiation, pricing and store merchandising.
  • Work as an intermediary between buyers and vendors to resolve issues including out of stocks, cost adjustments and new product selection.
  • Review and analyze daily/weekly reports, subsequently highlighting noteworthy achievements or possible concerns to the relevant buyer.
  • Work closely with brand representatives to ensure ideal assortments and inventory levels.
  • Assist in plan-o-gram development
  • Provides on-going analysis and interpretation of key business issues as directed by supervisor.
  • Assist in planning/coordination of availability of products for new store openings.
