About The Position

The Assistant Budget Director provides budget and financial services for the University of Colorado Denver by coordinating the request and operating budget cycles in an efficient and timely manner. In this role, the Assistant Budget Director will work with many constituencies including campus administration, campus operating units, employee groups, and the President’s Office.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in business, business administration, finance, accounting, or directly related field from an accredited institution.
  • Four years of progressively responsible finance or budget related experience, with at least one year in higher education or state government.
  • The position requires extensive, diverse and progressively responsible experience, including direct responsibility for higher education budgets.
  • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.

  • Understanding of higher education policies and issues.
  • Understanding of relational database concepts and queries.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills; ability to meet multiple deadlines and manage interrelated and/or complex issues or transactions.
  • Ability to evaluate policies and exercise good judgment in the interpretation and application of procedures and rules.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises team of three Budget Analysts engaged in providing budget support for all administrative units and the Denver schools & colleges, including preparing annual budget requests, regular budget analysis, and revisions.
  • Assist in reconciling and implementing the annual CU Denver operating budget in collaboration with the Anschutz team.
  • Collaborate with Denver School and College fiscal managers with developing and maintaining budgets.
  • Identify inefficient processes and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Preparation of the annual University of Colorado Denver Budget Data document for state General Fund support by gathering data in accordance with state, CCHE, and University guidelines and specific formats. Develops related Budget Data schedules on data and information for student enrollment, tuition, and other programs.
  • Monitor the budgetary data maintained in the University financial reporting system by reviewing departmental changes to initial operating budgets for reasonable budgeting decisions, compliance with applicable guidelines, and proper preparation.
  • Assists in responding to requests for information from the President’s Office, auditors, Administration and outside agencies.
  • Manage processes in Anaplan through verifying system data, preparing drivers, determining Denver Campus security, creating reports, and managing documentation and training.
  • Oversee the communications and change management for Anaplan including ensuring the distribution of information to end users on system design, updates, training, and deadlines.
