Assistant Boys Basketball Coach
About The Position
This position is for an Assistant Boys Basketball Coach at Hedgesville High. The coach will be responsible for assisting in the administration of the basketball program, developing team philosophies, supervising players, managing equipment inventory, and contributing to the program's budget. The role also involves preparing practice and game plans, supervising an off-season strength and conditioning program, monitoring player academic progress, and caring for injuries. A key aspect of the role is fostering positive relationships with players, parents, students, coaches, faculty, officials, media, and the community, while strictly adhering to all WVSSAC rules and attending required clinics. The coach will also assist in organizing supplemental funding activities, cooperating in the supervision and evaluation of other coaches, and participating in staff development and school programs like Sportsmanship and Scholar/Athlete. Effective communication with the head coach, athletic director, and principal is essential for all operations and activities.
Requirements
- Candidates must possess or be eligible for West Virginia Teacher Certification; or, possess or have the ability to obtain the WV Coaching Authorization (High School Diploma or GED Required), prior to the start of the season.
- Successful completion of a three-day ASEP / WVSSAC certification training class, with three online exams.
- Successful completion of four NFHS / WVSSAC online courses, with online exams.
- Completion of required Safeschools trainings.
- Prior approval and recommendation of administrators.
- Ability to perform the job duties and responsibilities of the position as contained in the Job Description, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Responsibilities

- Communicate effectively with head coach, athletic director and/or principal regarding all operations and activities
- Perform additional, reasonable, job-related responsibilities as assigned by the head coach, athletic director and/or building principal
