The position of Assistant Coach is for the purpose of assisting the Head Coach in organizing and conducting the athletic program to meet the needs of the participants, by providing them worthwhile learning experiences. This role requires exceptional integrity and character, serving as a positive role model in the school and community. The assistant coach will perform delegated duties assigned by the Head Coach, be knowledgeable of and implement the planned system and style of play, and enforce all athletic regulations. They will also attend meetings and professional development, and ensure active supervision during all scheduled activities including games, practices, locker room, and transportation. A thorough knowledge of skill development, training techniques, fundamentals, game strategy, and the rules of the sport is essential, along with a commitment to continued professional development. Responsibilities include the care and distribution of district equipment, communicating respectfully with athletes, refraining from profanity, developing positive rapport with students, parents, and staff, and cooperating with other school-sponsored sports. The coach must practice professional conduct, cultivate a respectful environment, handle program finances according to district practice, and report any conduct violating safety within 24 hours. Adherence to all interscholastic policies, rules, and procedures, including those of the OSAA, Mt. Hood Conference, and Board Policies, is required. Support for academic achievement and reporting participant injuries are also key functions. Confidentiality and other assigned duties are also part of the role.
