About The Position

The Assistant Baseball Coach is responsible for teaching student-athletes the skills of baseball, mentoring them in academic and personal character development, and performing administrative duties as assigned by the head coach, all within a Christian university environment. This role involves representing the University with courtesy and discretion, assisting in practice planning and execution, developing player skills, assessing competitor performance, formulating game plans, and aiding in recruiting efforts. The position also includes mentoring students in life skills and Christian values, operating within NCAA and conference rules, assisting with scheduling, arranging team logistics, planning travel, monitoring academic progress, supervising team managers, and assisting with strength and conditioning programs. The Assistant Coach directly supervises student-athletes and student workers, providing immediate supervision, management, and work leadership.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree Required.
  • A minimum of one year coaching experience is required, preferably collegiate level baseball coaching experience or higher.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of the sport
  • Knowledge of typical sport-related injuries
  • Ability to motivate and deal effectively with people
  • Good communication skills
  • Must be able to pass the NCAA recruiting test
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules is essential
  • Ability to provide clear direction, delegate responsibility, motivate others, develop others’ skills and talents, and attract and recruit talent.
  • Shows consideration for others, listens effectively, cooperates well with others, establishes and maintains relationships, is adaptive, remains calm under stress and is persevering

Nice To Haves

  • collegiate level baseball coaching experience or higher
  • Division I experience is desirable.
  • Knowledge of college baseball recruiting is strongly preferred
  • A working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and Internet is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a representative of the University displaying courtesy, tact, consideration, and discretion in all interactions with other members of the HCU community and with the public
  • Assist head coach in planning and executing practice sessions
  • Work with student-athletes in developing skills of softball
  • Assesses competitor performance
  • Helps to formulate workout sessions and game plans
  • Assists in recruiting efforts which involves evaluating current and potential talent at high schools and junior colleges
  • Mentors students on an individual basis and in groups in developing life-skills, character building activities, and modeling Christian values for students
  • Operates within the rules as required by the conference and the NCAA
  • Assists with the scheduling of opponents
  • Arranges for equipment, uniforms and supplies to be available for team
  • Plan and execute team travel with authority to commit expenditures up to departmental budget, subject to University purchasing guidelines.
  • Assists in game-day operations and court prep
  • Monitor academic progress of student-athletes and counsels with them about issues and progress relative to their coursework.
  • Supervise team managers
  • Assist in designing and monitoring strength and conditioning program
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Directly supervises student-athletes and student workers. The nature of responsibility is immediate supervision and management over individuals within the department, in addition to providing work leadership.
