About The Position

The Assistant Barn Director at Victory Junction helps fulfill the organization’s mission by caring for its animals and providing safe camper experiences involving animals. The role includes animal health and barn operations, supporting camp programming, and training staff, counselors, volunteers, and campers in animal safety. The Assistant Barn Director also works with vendors and the Program Team and follows Victory Junction’s policies and procedures. Weekend availability during programming season and occasional evening work are required.

Requirements

Extensive animal health and barn knowledge.
Knowledge of therapeutic riding.
Experience driving barn vehicles, including trucks and vehicles pulling trailers.
Certification in CPR, AED, and First Aid.
Computer knowledge.
Meet medical requirements as a condition of employment.

Nice To Haves

At least two years of experience with a camp or similar equine program is desired.

Responsibilities

Provide care and preventive health maintenance for all animals, including daily feeding, exercise, grooming, worming, and routine and emergency veterinary care.
Ensure the safety, cleanliness, and maintenance of barn facilities and equipment.
Assist in training counselors and volunteers in proper horse-leading and side-walking techniques and emergency procedures.
Assist in training campers, counselors, volunteers, and staff in safety requirements for all animals.
Assist with leading camp programs involving campers, prioritizing safety and implementing quality programming practices.
Collaborate with vendors to keep hay, shavings, and feed in stock.
Participate in the Program Team’s development, coordination, and facilitation of volunteer and staff orientation.
Foster a culture of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion.
Adhere to and implement Victory Junction’s policies and procedures.
Be available to work weekends during programming season and occasionally evenings as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
