About The Position

The Assistant Band Director at OCHS is responsible for assisting the Band Director in various aspects of the music program, with a primary goal of helping students develop musical skills, appreciation, and self-esteem. This role involves leadership in coordinating band activities, conducting rehearsals, assisting with concerts, and adhering to school policies and ethical standards. The position also includes management responsibilities such as maintaining equipment, assisting with fundraising, and collaborating on music selection and performance duties. Strong interpersonal relationships with students, staff, administrators, and parents are essential.

Requirements

  • Kentucky certificate, license, or other legal credentials required.
  • Experience and other qualifications as specified by the Superintendent.
  • Ability to work effectively with students.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with coordinating marching band activities including band camp, rehearsals and pre-season activities.
  • Conducts rehearsals during the absence of the director.
  • Assists with the Christmas Concert and the Spring Concert.
  • Adheres to school board policies and administrative procedures.
  • Adheres to the state Professional Code of Ethics.
  • Demonstrates punctuality and good attendance for all duties.
  • Maintains material and equipment.
  • Assists with necessary fund-raising ventures.
  • Collaborates with the band director in music selection, pep-band and half-time show duties.
  • Shares responsibility for inventory of all music, uniforms, instruments and any other materials and equipment which are utilized by the band.
  • Performs any other duties as may be assigned by the Band Director, Principal, Superintendent, or Board of Education.
  • Demonstrates positive interpersonal relationships with students.
  • Demonstrates positive interpersonal relationships with staff.
  • Demonstrates positive interpersonal relationships with other administrators.
  • Demonstrates positive interpersonal relationship with parents/community.
