The Assistant Band Director will teach students in a manner that they can apply the knowledge and skills required for College and Career Readiness in accordance with the Mississippi Framework and Common Core Curriculum. This role involves developing and implementing curriculum plans, preparing lessons with accommodations for individual differences, and presenting subject matter according to established guidelines. The position requires assessing student learning styles, cooperating with staff on instructional goals, and utilizing technology in the teaching/learning process. The Assistant Band Director will also assist students in improving study habits, assess student achievement, and assume responsibility for extracurricular activities. This role is crucial in instructing students in citizenship and basic subject matter, serving as a positive role model, and creating a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the physical, social, and emotional development of students. Effective classroom management, student behavior management, and discipline according to board policy are essential. The position also involves taking necessary precautions to protect students and materials, assisting in the selection of instructional materials, evaluating student growth, maintaining communication with parents and students, and identifying student needs. Professional competence through in-service education and participation in professional growth activities is expected. The Assistant Band Director will cooperate with administrators in developing evaluation methods and supervise students in out-of-classroom activities and field trips. Administering standardized tests and participating in Professional Learning Communities, faculty committees, and student activities are also key responsibilities. Utilizing student data to guide instruction and professional development is required.
