About The Position

The Attorney General’s Office in Augusta has an opening for an Assistant Attorney General (AAG) within the Professional & Financial Regulation Division of the Office. This AAG may variously advise, or prosecute administrative cases before, the Bureau of Consumer Credit Protection, Office of Securities, and other agencies within the Department of Professional and Financial Regulation (DPFR). Additionally, this AAG will advise other state agencies and professional licensing boards, and prosecute professional licensing cases in administrative tribunals in programs and boards within and affiliated with DPFR. This work involves advising agency employees, handling disciplinary complaints against licensed professionals, providing legal analysis and opinions on regulatory matters, performing agency rule review, defending agency decisions on appeal to the Superior Court, and enforcing agency orders in court.

Requirements

  • Member of the Maine Bar in good standing.
  • An eye for legal detail.
  • Interested in complex state regulation.
  • Strong legal advocacy and writing skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to function effectively as part of a team.

Nice To Haves

  • One to three years of legal practice with demonstrated proficiency in administrative law and litigation is preferred.
