About The Position

The Vermont Office of the Attorney General, Department for Children and Families, Family Services Legal Division, has an immediate opening for an energetic and talented full-time Assistant Attorney General who will be responsible for representing the Department for Children and Families before the Human Services Board. This Assistant Attorney General position is an exempt full-time position. Salary and benefits will be based upon qualifications and experience in accordance with the State of Vermont Attorney Pay Plan. Requirements

  • Must be a member in good standing of the Vermont bar, or eligible to waive in.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Capable of working as part of a team.
  • Willing to travel and work independently, but within the structure of a government legal team.

Nice To Haves

  • Three years of relevant experience, especially in Vermont.
  • Self-reliance.
  • IT skills.
  • Knowledge of state and federal mental health law, regulations and policies.

Responsibilities

  • Representing the Department for Children and Families before the Human Services Board.
  • Litigating Family Division cases before the Vermont Superior Courts.
  • Representing the Department in administrative appeals before the Human Services Board.
  • Contract review.
  • Related administrative legal work.
  • Training family service workers in all aspects of the litigation process.
  • Handling litigation in Vermont Superior Courts, Family Division.
